Composer & musician SANKET MAHAPATRA (short profile)

Sanket Mahapatra was born in 1988, in Ahmedabad (India), in a city of Gandhi  is an accomplished Tabla player and a self-taught electronic musician.

Graduated in Physics as a major subject from Gujarat University. Studied Sound- Engineering  and pursued Master's in Performing Arts with the specialization in"Hindustani Classical Tabla"

Sanket started to learn Hindustani Classical Tabla (Banaras Gharana) as one of the world's most complex percussion instruments since childhood.

Sanket believes:
"Indian classical music is among the world's richest music..all art constantly aspires towards the condition of music". - Therefore not sticking to one particular musical style
Sanket is composing and experimenting on different genres like: Indian Electronic, Drum & Bass, Ambient, Chillout ,Trance, Sound Scapes, Tribal Drum Steps...

His biggest influences, however (beside the training and guidance) were from everyday sounds happening around us in our routine life. Sanket would notice the meter of the clock in empty
class room, the micro rhythms of Charkha in Gandhi Ashram, attracted by the sounds of Rain Splash, Cicadas and Ambiance of passing trains at night. Sanket was not just used to observe the sound from one place, but the whole trip, from closing your door at home till you arrive at work.
